Is communism still alive and well? My contention is that it is, and that it not only came to America, but it is entrench very deeply in our political system.
Most people think that communism, and its very closely related brothers socialism, marxism, and leninism died with the fall of the Soviet Union. They also think that nazism and facism(both which are close cousins of communism) died with the fall of the Third Reich and Facist Italy. Nothing could be further from the truth.
While it may be unwise, politically, to call oneself a communist or a socialist today, the ideas survive. They are now called Democrats(and to a lesser extent Republicans). Don't believe me? Here are the 10 Planks of communism from the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx:
Now compare that to the positions of the Democrat Party. Surprised? Many people are.
Now how close are we to meeting all ten planks today in America? Number 1 is coming along nicely, with the Drug War in full swing and the environmentalists in high gear. Number 2 is a mainstay of the US Government(ever here of the IRS?), and about 46 state governments. Number 3 is halfway there, since 55% of the price of an estate is taxed(aka the estate tax that is talked about). Number 4 falls in nicely with the Drug War, "tax protesters", and "gun nuts", among others. Number 5 is complete-ever here of the Fed or Alan Greenspan. Number 6 is close, with communication monitored and with ATT's control for 70 years, and with roads, cars, and drivers heavly regulated by the states and the feds. Number 7 is coming along nicely in California with Gov. Davis attempting to take over the power companies, and with the enviromentalist's plans for the Artic National Wildlife Refuge and pretty much the entire west save the cities. Number 8 is called welfare. Number 9 is called the union ideology, and also another environmentalist plan, . Number 10 is fully in place-its called public school, and manditory attendence thereof.
