Dale and Dot Hershey and Family
Dale’s area of responsibility on the farm is in young stock and nutrition. We have several farms, both owned and rented, spread across five miles or so. The mature animals are all on the home farm, so a good bit of Dale’s time is spent managing and moving heifers in the outlying farms. Dale works with 21st Century Consulting in the nutritional work, with the ration balancing done with the Spartan program. The actual balancing is done on our computer, so the ration is handy for tweaks between consultant visits.
Dale is also a Land’O Lakes area delegate, and a board
member for Keystone Farm Credit, as well as other community involvement
which keeps him involved in outside activities.
Dale
and Dot live in half of the farm house, where they have lived since moving
from Western Pennsylvania in 1980. Dot is an enthusiastic 1st grade teacher
at Kraybill’s Mennonite School. Both Dale and Dot are active in Akron Mennonite
Church. Of course, much of their lives revolve around their children.
Sarah is the oldest, married to Mike Kerdeman. The have a daughter Katelyn, turning Dale and Dot into grandma and grandpa.
Jon is a 1998 graduate of Manheim Central High School, with an eye on a future somewhere in the computer field.
Derek is Manheim Central Class of 2000. He is active in
the vo-ag program, and has been involved in everything from small gas engines
to bull riding.
